Volunteer Spotlight: Pat
Pat has been involved with Outreach for over 7 years! Read about her experience and why she continues to serve homeless youth in Indianapolis!

How would you describe Outreach to someone new?
Outreach is a program that reaches out to homeless youth with the love and support that they need so much. Outreach provides counseling, meals throughout the week, clothing, a place to shower and do laundry, help with job and housing opportunities, and help getting their GED if needed.
Why do you volunteer to serve homeless youth at Outreach?
Over the years I have seen first hand how much difference Outreach has made in the lives of the youth that they serve. It is also great getting to know the other volunteers and the passion that they have for the youth.
What is a memorable moment from your time volunteering at Outreach?
Several years ago, maybe 7 or 8 years, I was trying to get people at work interested in providing winter coats, gloves, hats, blankets, etc. for the Christmas party. One supervisor had a departmental challenge and the group that brought in the most items – won a group pizza party. I remember delivering a van totally packed with items for the winter. And everyone involved had such a fun time helping.

What is something you learned while volunteering with us that has helped you in your life?
Probably that even the little things we do to help can mean a lot to someone that has very little. Most of the youth I have worked with are very appreciative of all the volunteers do to help.
What values and/or lessons would you pass along to someone interested in volunteering at Outreach?
Be real with youth, and don’t be afraid to share.

What surprised you the most about volunteering with us?
Most of the youth that I have met on Friday mornings at drop are looking for opportunities to make their lives better – some just don’t know how and need the skills and resources that Outreach offers.
When you're not volunteering, what are some of your hobbies or commitments?
I like to spend time with my grandkids, travel, garden, knit, and Bible studies.
