Meet Mackenzie
“I just didn’t know how fast it could happen. How quickly things could just begin to look up for me,” said Mackenzie.
When Mackenzie lost her home, she also lost vital documents like her birth certificate and ID. Replacing them felt daunting. She heard Outreach could help with that process, but soon learned that Outreach was more than just a resource to solve an administrative problem.
Outreach provided Mackenzie with food, clothing, and other essentials. “They’re really good at being able to reach out to everybody and advocate for everybody,” she said. She started coming every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and is enjoying her first experience with a real community.
One of her favorite parts is the art program for Transform. “We can just be creative and express ourselves,” she said. “There’s nice music in there and prompts that we can go by and that we can use if we want.” That time to create is a bright spot in her week.
But the most transformative moment came when a staff member connected Mackenzie with housing opportunities. Hope stopped feeling abstract and started feeling real again.
For Mackenzie, transformation means to grow, and that growth has been steady since she stepped through Outreach’s doors. From practical support like a warm meal and essential paperwork to the deeply personal connection of a team that advocates for her and provides her with a creative outlet, Outreach is an integral part of her rebuilding process.
Mackenzie’s journey isn’t over yet, but with more resources, stability, and hope than she had just six months ago, she is ready to keep moving forward.
